Canelo - Lyle Canyon - AZT

MTB
32 miles
3807 ft elevation
Intermediate Skills
Intermediate/Advanced Fitness
Starts at Canelo

This ride includes the Canelo Hills East Passage of the Arizona Trail. After a ride through scenic Lyle Canyon, you'll hit a few miles of pavement around Parker Canyon Lake before joining the AZT in Scotia Canyon.

The first 6 miles are fairly tame but beyond that are a couple of climbs that are a bit challenging. The scenery and views are worth it though.

There are no services available on this route. The route is very isolated. Plan on riding self supported.

Canelo - AZT - Patagonia

MTB
21.1 miles or 42.2 as an out and back
1657 ft elevation
Intermediate Skills
Intermediate Fitness
Starts at Canelo

From the start in Canelo, you'll climb the road to just shy of the top of Canelo Pass to join the beginning of the Canelo Hills West Passage of the Arizona Trail. Once on the AZT, the climbing continues for the first mile until a saddle with the best views of the ride. From here you'll find abundant grasslands and spend some time dodging cow patties (and cows) as this is grazing country.

At mile 13.1 you'll intersect the old AZT (straight) with the new (right). Take the right to enjoy the next 8 miles of machine built trail until you reach Highway 82, four miles east of Patagonia. From here, you have either arranged for someone to meet you, you're continuing on through the Temporal Gulch Passage or you can turn around and head back to the start.

There are no services available on this route. The route is very isolated. Plan on riding self supported.

AZT - Temporal Gulch

MTB

2166 ft elevation
Intermediate Skills
Intermediate Fitness
Starts at Patagonia

Ride some of the newly cut AZT then loop back to Patagonia. Alternatively do an out and back to mile 13 or ride clockwise. Miles 5-13 are machine built so none of the climbs are lungbusters and the trail is fairly tame. This ride is isolated with no services available along the way. Plan on riding self supported.

AZT - Sahuarita towards Pistol Hill

MTB
19.4 miles
1220 ft elevation
Intermediate Skills
Intermediate Fitness
Starts at Sahuarita Rd

Not for the faint of heart nor beginner. If you're looking for quick miles, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a challenging ride on good trails with great views, enjoy.

AZT - Three Bridges - Rincon Creek

MTB
25.2 miles
2074 ft elevation
Intermediate Skills
Intermediate Fitness
Starts at Three Bridges

The AZT-Three Bridges-Rincon Creek section is more intermediate and for those who want to venture further out. You'll find more climbing and a bit more technical features but again, as an out and back, you can turn around when you're ready..
